Email us your take on a burger
September 28, 2009
Dear Burger Boy,
Some claim JG Melons to be an Upper East Side institution while
others claim that it is place where UES preppies gather to discuss
stocks, New England lacrosse, or to simply talk about their favorite
subject: themselves. I’ll say it’s a combination of both. And nothing
against stocks, New England lacrosse or talking about yourself…
In any case, one thing is for sure; the burgers (and fries) are
incredible. As the burger boy mentioned, fries must be added with a
burger (or two if you’re shameless like me). If you don’t get an order
of fries you’re stupid. Sorry. It’s not like your trying to cut
calories. I mean you’re at a burger joint for crying out loud.
Service is mediocre, and I’m not knocking the wait staff here. The
place just gets crowded especially after work. If you decide to go for
lunch or dinner during the weekend, good luck. Just hope you’re with
the Burger Boy so you get seated before the place closes.
-”Shingo Katayma”
I don’t know that there is much to add here Shingo. You pretty much hit the nail right on the head. The burgers are classic, simple but delicious. The fries are unique but unreal at the same time and a side not to be passed up (unless you are stupid, like you said). The only thing that would be foolish is to not check this place out for yourself. Certainly one of the best places going on the UES and one of the top joints in Manhattan.
-The Burger Boy
PS- Don’t mess with Shingo…the dude sounds like he knows his burgers.

Burger Boy,
I know your palate resides in Manhatten, but next time you bring your taste buds up 95 or the Merritt and into the Commonwealth, be sure to swing by a hidden gem, RF O’Sullivan and Sons.
This Boston staple (actually Cambridge) does not mess around, not one little bit. Burgers take 20 minutes to prepare, and it is considered blasphemy if they are pressed. You will only be served the plumpest burger, and they prefer to serve them rare. Of course I obliged.
I decided to stray from old reliable, the Boursin Burger, and went with the special for the day, “The Bocce Ball”. This behemoth consists of:
Juicy Sirloin Burger
Fresh Cappicola
Mozzarella Cheese
Homemade BBQ Sauce
Sauteed Peppers
Sauteed Onions
Lettuce
Dont think about taking a breather, as the fries are about half a baked potato each.
For good measure I started with a cup of chili and a few black and tans.
Lets go Huskies!

Clarke,
Well done and cheers to kicking the crap out of that burger. I’m curious, was it talking smack to you? You dropped a haymaker on that burger by the looks of that picture. We appreciate your enthusiasm and breakdown of this burger. I will be sure to make my way in there whenever in town. Open invitation to join me to tag team another one of their burgers!

Dear Burger Boy,
Please see attached photo of me at Rare Downtown housing the Murray’s special of the day:
-all natural beef
-smoked gouda from Holland
-applewood smoked bacon
-caramelized onions
-red peppers
-yellow peppers
-lettuce & tomato
Simply amazing! Came with a side salad with chopped tomatoes, crumbled blue cheese, and ranch dressing. Also, added some truffle fries to the mix!
Sincerely,
Grise
