Mailbag: BLT Burger West Village, Manhattan NY

BLT Burger- The Burger Boy

Dear Burger Boy,

BLT burger… is the t#ts! Top notch burger joint – located on 6th ave btwn 11th & 12th. Jerry crushed a Great Hills Blue Burger (7oz. Grilled CAB Burger, Great Hills Blue Cheese, Balsamic Caramelized Onion, Mushrooms)- also I decided throw some bacon on top of that, which was a good decision. Side of sweet potato fries was a no brainer.  Washed down with some Magic Hat No 9 (on tap).
BLT Burger- The Burger Boy 2
Only negative was they didn’t have A1 Sauce (or any steak sauce for that matter)- which I think is a must for a Bacon Blue Cheese burger.

Yerman's Burger- Burger Boy

Dear Burger Boy,

Last night the burger boy sent some troops to the find what may be the best burgers east of the… East river!  The only thing more surprising then this Bison Burger tasting amazing, was the fact that Mark Sanchez made it through a whole game without a pick!  Queens has some great burger joints, but Yermans Pub in Glendale is among the top competitors in this famous Boro.

Mailbag: DelFrisco’s New York, NY (Midtown)

Del Frisco's BurgerDear Burger Boy,

The burger was cooked to perfection (obvi med-rare) and the meat was very flavorful (definitely the best part–which is what I look for in a “great burger”.) It was their Prrime DF burger; meat marinated, seaoned with pepper, topped with melted cheddar, Bermuda onion, fresh tomato, and some lettuce and seasoning. It was the perfect amount of food and left me wanting nothing else but a nap on the couch. 8 out of 10 burgers.

Aaaaaand the waitress was a standard old fashioned Del Friscos money-grubbing six.

DelFrisco's Burger- NYCThanks Fellas…pretty spot on there with the run down.  Been there a few times and you pretty much hit the nail on the head.  I am assuming you guys hit the “Corporate Lunch” which is one of the best deals going out there.  The truffle chips are a slam dunk along with the beef tips & mashed tators if you’re ever looking to mix it up a bit. But hey, what grown man can hold back on a burger???  – BB

Baby-H-Burger Tackling his prey

Baby-H-Burger Tackling his prey

Dear BurgerBoy,

After getting righteous at a music festival out in Cali last weekend, I drove back to San Diego with our dear friend, Baby-H-Burger.  We decide that after a weekend of feasting on heady burritos, dank IPA’s, and mind-blowing music, we need something hearty to bring us back to life.
So BabyBurger takes me to BareBack Grill, voted “best burger in San Diego.”  I get the “Queenstown Fave” (100% ORGANIC beef (only way to roll), lettuce, tomato, red onion, aioli, BBG sauce, and Edam Cheese).  I’ll be honest….it was good, but not as dank as I needed.  I’m big into buns and mine was not only bigger than the burger, but it was a little stale. The beef was cooked as requested (rare/bloody) and delicious.  BabyBurger on the other hand ordered the “Bare Lil Lamb” (New Zealand lamb burger, blue cheese crumbles w/mint dressing, beet root, Lett, Tom, Red On, and BBG sauce).  As you can see in the picture below, he enjoyed the hell out of his.
It was pretty damn good, but you’ll have to get a review from him because I only had a bite.
Believe it or not, BabyBurger was hungry and ordered a basket of half fries and half onion rings for us.  Best french fries I have ever had.  These are up there with McDonalds fries in terms of shape, size and uber dankness.  BBG, however adds a secret spice, which I haven’t smoked yet, as well as a little sugar onto the fries.  Doesn’t sound legit, but trust this heady pallet….IT IS.
All in all, after taking in the heady atmosphere that I dig, the fries, the IPA’s and the burgers, I give BBG 7 JJ Birds out of 10.  Fries get 10 JJ Birds out of 10.
But lastly, I must add this essential piece of heady info to my mailbag: BABYBURGER FINISHED HIS BURGER….ALL BY HIMSELF (except for my bite).

As I continue to house heady burgers, I will be sure to email you.  In the mean time, keep up the good work and stay green.

Mailbag: Fleming’s Steakhouse Tampa, FL

Fleming's Steakhouse

Dear Burger Boy,

I decided to hit the ball out of the park on this trip to Fleming’s and knock the cover off of my credit card.  Tampa is known for rows and rows of fastfood chains from Sonic to TGI Friday’s but from time to time one needs to get out off the strip and  out of strip clubs (also a cornerstone of the greater Tampa area).

I posted up at the Winebar and was greeted by two delightful bartenders.  I said ladies, I am batting clean up tonight and going for the long ball with the Fleming’s Prime Burger.  This is an MVP of all burgers consisting of black angus prime beef, cheddar cheese, onion rings and bernaise sauce on the freshest and chewiest brioches of all.  Sweeter and smoother than Scott Brosius in October.

This was a difficult burger to tackle however I got it down with a suicide squeeze and manage to clear the plate like a champ.

Shlongoria, good looking out and nice to know you leave it all out on the field and not on your plate.

Mailbag: Cheeburger Cheeburger Sanibel Island, FL

Cheeburger Cheeburger Sanibel FL

Burger Boy…..
yours truly enjoyed his burger motivated vaca down in florida as well.
peep this shot of my celebratory stuffed burger for finishing off the burger challenge at “cheeburger cheeburger”.  if only that stuffed beast was real.
i inhaled my “pounder” (20 ounces) topped with jalapeno cheese, onions, and bbq sauce and mayo in a mere 5 minutes.  surprisingly, for a massiveburger cooked medium, the actual beef was top notch.  and yes, bbq and mayo, you read that correctly.  although, in all honesty, this was no real challenge, as any burger afficionado could have scarfed this task down without breaking a meat sweat.  head down to sanibel island and scope my snapshot on the wall.  its tagged with a hartford whalers logo.
after sampling 5 guys the day before, i truly could appreciate the large gap in quality between the two.  fun in the sun?  more like finding new air conditioned burger joints.
sidenote:  the burger was washed down with a few beers and a large strawberry cheesecake milkshake.  how refreshing.

Clarke, thanks very much for writing in to theburgerboy while enjoying your vacation.  I must say I am pretty impressed that instead of hitting the beaches and getting bronze you were sliding massive cheeseburgers down your gizzard.  Big Ups to your priorities down in sunny Florida but more importantly nice style with the croakies, lax tee and the mason jar.  Now that is what I call a mancation.

Mailbag: Joe’s Pizza Canton, CT

burger1
So I woke up on Sunday morning and decided to get my leaf peep on.  Loaded up the car with the GF and the dog and headed for the woods.  By woods, I mean a cul de sac in Simsbury CT that happens to also have a hiking trail attached to it.  After a few hours of soaking up some of the best scenery that central CT has to offer, folks were getting hungry.  All morning I was planning on eating a burger and taking pictures of it.  Plenty of options existed, but I could only think of one that could top the AnusBurger picture.  Although, they have pizza in their name, Joe’s Pizza in Canton, CT makes a damn fine cheeseburger.  8.50 for a 1/2 pounder is always a decent value, however, I was a little irked by the “add $1.50 for fries” clause that the menu had, but figured screw it, this is for the BurgerBoy . Plus, I was really hungry.  For toppings, I decided to keep it pretty simple.  Went with grilled peppers and onions.  I’ve ruined enough burgers at 5guys due to too many toppings, that I have finally learned that just because they offer it, doesn’t mean you have to order it.  Joe’s Pizza has a large selection of toppings (think 5Guys but a little more gourmet) and about 7 beers on tap, including Long Trail Double Bag and Stone Mill Pale Ale (marketed as a super-heady organic brew that is actually made by Anheuser Busch).  Next time you venture to the Farmington Valley for some antiquing, check Joe’s out.  Also, if any of your friends or aquaintances are vegetarians, Joe’s supposedly makes a good veggie pizza.  I’ve never had it, because veggie pizzas are for idiots, but they have it if you need it. As the pictures can attest, I thoroughly dominated the burger while being mocked by the lady friend for taking pictures of my food. “Sorry babe, this one’s for the internet”.
