Baby-H-Burger Tackling his prey

Baby-H-Burger Tackling his prey

Dear BurgerBoy,

After getting righteous at a music festival out in Cali last weekend, I drove back to San Diego with our dear friend, Baby-H-Burger.  We decide that after a weekend of feasting on heady burritos, dank IPA’s, and mind-blowing music, we need something hearty to bring us back to life.
So BabyBurger takes me to BareBack Grill, voted “best burger in San Diego.”  I get the “Queenstown Fave” (100% ORGANIC beef (only way to roll), lettuce, tomato, red onion, aioli, BBG sauce, and Edam Cheese).  I’ll be honest….it was good, but not as dank as I needed.  I’m big into buns and mine was not only bigger than the burger, but it was a little stale. The beef was cooked as requested (rare/bloody) and delicious.  BabyBurger on the other hand ordered the “Bare Lil Lamb” (New Zealand lamb burger, blue cheese crumbles w/mint dressing, beet root, Lett, Tom, Red On, and BBG sauce).  As you can see in the picture below, he enjoyed the hell out of his.
It was pretty damn good, but you’ll have to get a review from him because I only had a bite.
Believe it or not, BabyBurger was hungry and ordered a basket of half fries and half onion rings for us.  Best french fries I have ever had.  These are up there with McDonalds fries in terms of shape, size and uber dankness.  BBG, however adds a secret spice, which I haven’t smoked yet, as well as a little sugar onto the fries.  Doesn’t sound legit, but trust this heady pallet….IT IS.
All in all, after taking in the heady atmosphere that I dig, the fries, the IPA’s and the burgers, I give BBG 7 JJ Birds out of 10.  Fries get 10 JJ Birds out of 10.
But lastly, I must add this essential piece of heady info to my mailbag: BABYBURGER FINISHED HIS BURGER….ALL BY HIMSELF (except for my bite).

As I continue to house heady burgers, I will be sure to email you.  In the mean time, keep up the good work and stay green.
Forever Dank,

Pick of the Week- Royale (East Village)

Royale Burger NYC East Village

NYMAG.com- Where jazz cats once grooved from the stage of the C-Note, a 100-CD jukebox now blares REO Speedwagon, James Taylor, and Pat Benatar. The middlebrow bent of Murray Hill is clearly elbowing its way below 14th Street as giddy girls in Tsubi jeans do shots with the barkeep and dudes in Yankee caps pair Molson drafts with fatty, juicy Angus burgers. Yet a bit of Loisaida lurks within this narrow space, too. The owners of nearby Cafecito have endowed Royale with the color scheme of a Guinness bottle: There are polished dark mahoganies, amber lighting, and plenty of mirrors for the beefy pitbull owners who come from the nearby Jacob Riis houses to watch the game. The bar itself holds a tasteful selection of mid-shelf liquors enhanced by $4 cans of zesty organic farmhouse ales from the obscure upstate brewery Butternuts. (Brewer Chuck Williams is pals with the owners.) And in the backyard, that ultimate East Village asset: a leafy, flower-dotted deck with picnic tables and a sunken, pebble-filled nook. — Daniel Maurer

New Mickey D’s Dollar Menu? Sneak Peak

McDonald's Breakfast Menu

YUMSUGAR.com- Based on internal documents obtained by the two publications, the McDonald’s breakfast dollar menu will begin a national advertising run in January 2010. Although McDonald’s has declined to comment, the burger giant tested a breakfast menu with $1 items in August in its Chicago stores, offering items such as a sausage McMuffin, breakfast burritos, and hash browns.

The chain, which is also rolling out the Mac Snack Wrap nationwide in January, will face some stiff competition.

Burger King recently added the quarter-pound Double Cheeseburger to its menu through March, and Dunkin’ Donuts just rolled out a temporary $0.99 menu in Chicago. If two leading newspapers are publishing stories on it, the alleged menu can’t be too far from the truth. What would you hope to see on a $1 breakfast bonanza?

Some new items on the menu huh? Still not that impressed.  There are thousands of eateries, cafes and even street carts  all over NYC where you can find a better breakfast on the go than McD’s.  Give it a shot and try for yourself but don’t be disappointed.  Just remember….I told you so. -BB

For the Greater Good…

Dick's Drive Thru-Seattle

BLOG.SEATTLEPI.com- Veterans and active military officers — leave some room Wednesday

Seattle’s Dick’s Drive-In restaurants want to give you a free cheeseburger in honor of your service this Veteran’s Day.

Dick Spady, co-founder of the popular local fast food chain, served in both World War II and the Korean War, and met his wife in the Navy.

“We both share a deep respect and admiration for our fellow veterans and active military members,” Spady, 86, said in a statement. “They deserve our recognition and support.”

And a cheeseburger.

From 10:30 a.m. to close on Veterans Day, veterans and active-duty military members need only show a military ID to claim their greasy reward

That a boy Dick…much respect and big up’s to you, your idea and the people around you. This is a great story and a way to give a small piece.  I am with you on this one 100%.  Thank you to all you do for us, our country and our peace of mind.  Enjoy that cheeseburger and know that we support all of you even in the littlest of ways. Thanks to all our men and women. -BB

Who’s your Patty?

Mcdonald's- Minneapolis MSNBCMSNBC.com- MINNEAPOLIS – A Minnesota hamburger parlor and McDonald’s Corp. have settled a federal lawsuit over the phrase, “Who’s your patty?”

Michael Lafeber is an attorney for The Lion’s Tap in Eden Prairie. He says the parties reached a “mutually beneficial amicable resolution.” McDonald’s also says a satisfactory agreement was reached.

The lawsuit says Lions Tap registered the phrase, “Who’s your patty?,” in Minnesota four years ago and also applied for a federal trademark. McDonald’s recently began using the phrase in conjunction with its Angus burgers.

While New York Yankees Fans are still chanting “Who’s Your Daddy?” Minneapolis McDonald’s patrons are watching a tug of war over “Who’s your Patty?”.  Since when did the Lion’s Tap (who cares?) get pull over Mickey D’s?? Get a grip and move on…Who’s You Daddy?- BB

Burger Bowl- Week 10

Texas Cheerleader

“20-14-2 after an awful first few weeks on theBurgerBoy.com!  Chugga Chugga CHOOOOOOOOO CHOOOOOOOOOOO!   That would be the Money Train and I suggest you hop on because I am on fire and this week is starting to shape up as a slam dunk.  Oh, and next week I will be coming to you live from San Diego as the Burger Boy is this time sending me out to scout Eagles-Chargers.  Exciting things going on here at theBurgerBoy.com!  And finally, because of the ridiculous outpouring of love for BurgerBets via e-mail, I have had to change my address to something that can handle that type of volume.  So if you must e-mail me to tell me how much I rock, from now on just send to freemoney@theburgerboy.com.  Onto my picks, as always HOME TEAM in caps.

NCAA Picks:

Oklahoma (-4.5) @ NEBRASKA
.  This spread isn’t high enough, plain and simple.  Going into Nebraska and rolling won’t be quite as easy as it was to go into Kansas, but I still think Oklahoma wins this game by double digits.

Lsu (+7.5) @ ALABAMA.  This is the game of the day clearly.  I cannot wait to watch this game and I LOVE LSU.  This has tight SEC battle written all over it and I said from the start that as long as the spread is more than a TD, I am taking LSU all the way.  All year you have heard me hype up this Bama team and I love them, so me picking against them should go to show how confident I am in this pick.

STANFORD (+7) vs Oregon.  LOCK LOCK LOCK LOCK LOCK LOCK LOCK LOCK.  If you are looking to seriously make money, take Stanford outright, because I think they may squeak this one out.  But for the purpose of the Burger Bowl, take the 7 points, BET BIG ON IT, and go out and get a Kobe Beef burger because this is a friggin lock.  Have I ever steered you wrong on a LOCK?

NFL Picks:

Baltimore (-3) @ CINCINNATI
.  I know that Cincinnati is coming off a BYE and usually when a game is this big and a team is coming off a BYE I am all over them.  But this is the Bengals.  You could give them a year off and Marvin Lewis would still screw it up so I don’t care about the BYE.  This Bengals team is good, don’t get me a wrong, but they’re winning because they have talent and the Ravens are just too well coached to slip to 4-4.  Ravens 24, Bengals 17.

PHILLY (-3) vs Dallas.  This is almost too easy.  Like this is a joke.  The last time Dallas played in Philly they lost 44-6.  Yes, I said 44-6.  44-6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I love this game.  Sorry LobstersClaw.  Tony Homo has 3 INTs written all over him playing in front of this hostile crowd.  44-6!!!!!!!!!!   This line has me so confused that I don’t even know how to make fun of LobstersClaw.  Birds 31 Cowgirls 17.

PITTSBURGH (-3) @ Denver.   You know I have been picking against Denver a lot this year and I am finally about to start cashing in.  This Pittsburgh team took a 4 game win streak into the BYE and YES, they have an excellent head coach in Mike Tomlin that will have them ready to extend it to 5.  Denver is coming off a thrashing by Baltimore and they will be looking to bounce back, but I don’t see Kyle Orton doing ANYTHING against this Pittsburgh D.

Just took a step back and looked over my picks for this week.  Anyone else think they have 5-1 written all over them?  (shut up LC).  I am gunna go ahead and guarantee 4-2 or your money back!

Bet with me and your burgers are free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review: Bill’s Bar & Burger (Meatpacking) 7.5 out of 10 Burgers

Bill's Bar & Burger- BurgerSo I’ve been getting a TON of emails about the new Hog Pit replacement, Bill’s.  One of BB.com’s interns was sent down to scope out the scene last week and came back with a lot of good things to say.  So, we decided to trek down there, have a couple of beers and see for ourselves what the buzz was all about.  We rolled up our sleeves and dove right into an order of  wings, two orders of fries(the regs and Disco Fries) and the Fat Cat burger.  We learned from our very attentive and precise waiter (he was all business wearing a headband and had his own slice of “cheese” tonight…go get ‘em buddy, thanks for the great service).

Fat Cat Burger- Secret blend of beef, ground daily and griddled. This little outfit was topped with  Caramelized onions, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, lots of Porters (pickles) and added Green Chilles (cocky, no?)  The flavor was great, preparation of meat was a “No No” for me.  Bill ALL of his the same way, “smashed”, skinny and well done, 60 seconds away from a hockey puck.  WEAK.  BUT, some brownie points were scored as the tab was closed out with some adult Oreo Milkshakes with booze in them.  See you again Bill’s -BB

Oh BTW, look who showed up to join me….

Supplies list:
Hickory Smoked Bacon
Pepper Jack Cheese
Hamburger Buns

  • 100% Bacon. May God have mercy on my colon.
  • I cranked up the meat grinder and ground the bacon twice, once with the coarse plate and a second time through the fine plate.
  • The pile o’ bacon, ready for forming into patties.
  • I cooked my burger in a skillet to avoid having it break apart on the grill.
  • Cooked to 170, ready to eat.
  • Out of the skillet, patted on a paper towel to remove some grease and nestled between two slices of pepper jack cheese.
  • Time to eat with a side of Tim’s Cascade Habanero Chips.

This guy deserves a medal for this little creation.  A Hickory Smoked bacon burger…what will the come up with next? Pepper Jack Cheese…oh I hate cheese….HA!  (Pepper Jack, one of my favorites if not #1).  I may cook this for breakfast this weekend and add a little BB twist to it.  What are you thoughts on this little gem plus carmelized onions, hot peppers, guacamole and chipotle mayo.  BOOM! Yes sir! I’ll be signing autographs afterwards.- BB
