Slumber Party at the Ace Hotel

What better way to launch a limited-edition pajamas line than a booze-fueled hotel slumber party? Expect a who’s who of the art world along with DJ sets, live performances, cocktails from the Breslin and, of course, tarot card readings. Because you’ll want some advance notice about who you’ll be paired with during spin the bottle.
Alright this sounds pretty awesome/weird but let’s cut to the chase.  Whatever happens at the sleepover party you NEED and MUST hit the new restaurant just opened adjacent to the Hotel Lobby.  The Breslin, opened by Spotted Pig chef April Bloomfield, has a bar and a burger that are worth a drop-in prior to any party whether it include panties or Pabst Blue Ribbon.  The Lamb Burger will put you in your happy place and ready to hit the town.  Go get ‘em – BB

A Cheeseburger a Day, Keeps the Calories Away

Marie Claire

Marie Claire

MARIECLAIR.co.uk- According to the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition, the government’s guidelines of 2,000 calories a day for women and 2,500 for men are too low. People could eat 16 per cent more – around 400 calories – without putting on weight, they say.

This is the equivalent to a cheeseburger, or two packets of crisps.

The new guidelines, which are subject to consultation before becoming recommendations, were the result of researchers reassessing how fat is burned off after exercise.

This is great news but what was stopping us before??? Thanks for making us feel better about ourselves…I should speak for myself.  Thanks! -BB

Burger Bowl: Week 10

Tennesse Titan Cheerleaders. Burger Bets

BurgerBets is coming live to you from sunny San Diego this week!  If you didn’t already know, “Baby Burger” lives here.  If you don’t know who that is, scroll down and look for the retarded looking kid scarfing down a burger as if he were some sort of animal.  He just said he thinks he can “spike it on me” in beach volleyball.  Hmmmmmmmmm.  Don’t you have to not be retarded to know how to spike?  Thats what I thought.  Theres a better chance of LobstersClaw not #2ing himself this weekend than Baby Burger doing any sort of spiking.  Anyway, because I have to go to breakfast/beach/bar, I am gunna keep this short, as always home team in CAPS:

NFL Picks:

Temple (-5) @ Akron. I know, I know, just trust me.  They cover every week, its a joke.  As soon as I enroll they’re going to their first Bowl game since ‘nam and the hoops team is gunna beat Kansas in January.  TU MOTHA_____!

Iowa (+16.5) @ OHIO ST.  I don’t care if Iowa’s QB is out.  Terrell Pryor is not going to light it up against that Iowa D.  OSU wins by 10.  God I hate the Big 10.

PITTSBURGH (6.5) vs Notre Dame.  Charlie Weis is too fat and ugly to cover this spread, plain and simple.  Not to mention that Dave Wanstedt (a clone of BurgerBets Sr) is the man.  These teams are going in opposite directions, make some loot off it.

NFL Picks:

TENNESSEE (-6.5) vs Buffalo. OK so these teams are both pretty bad, but honestly, Tennessee looks like they’re starting to figure it out a bit and Buffalo is just god awful.  Plus Trent Edwards is starting again so this is taking candy from a baby.  Big day for Chris Johnson, Tennessee 24 Buffalo 13

Jacksonville (+6.5) @ NYJ. I don’t particularly like either of these teams, but the fact is why on earth should the New York Jets be giving 6.5 points to anyone?  I don’t know who is going to win, but my guess is that this is gunna be a slug it out runfest and will be within a TD.  aka COVER CITY.

Denver (-6) @ WASHINGTON. Uhhhh is this for real?  Honestly, I am not sure if I am seeing this right.  I am so weirded out that I haven’t even put my bet in because I don’t believe that my computer isn’t tweaking out or something.  Please, if this line is actually 10 and my computer is just buckling, e-mail BurgerBets (freemoney@theburgerboy.com) bc this is awkward.  Denver 24 Wash 10

OK so I went 2-4 last week largely due to officiating.  Eagles and LSU both coulda covered if the refs didn’t suck.  This week I smell 5-1.  If I don’t go 4-2, I will say something nice about LobstersClaw next week.Bets with me and your burgers are free!

Nice Buns Hun

kim-kardashian-buttock-augm3

PEOPLE.com- Is it just me or is Kim getting bigger and bigger?  I mean her butt has always been huge looks like it needs its own parking spot these days.  I think she might be dipping her toes into too many Carl’s Cheeseburgers.  Maybe she is the next in line to follow her fellow socialite cohorts Paris Hilton and Audrina Partridge.  Believe me, I would not be dissappointed to see Kim in a bikini mowing down a burger but she needs to cut back on the sesame seed buns and special sauce.  Take it easy Kim and start looking into Veggie or Boca burgers rather than Whoppers.  Your backside is turning into a new Sonic franchise.- BB

Meatpacking Burger Tour

Michael Sofronski/NY Post

Michael Sofronski/NY Post

NYPOST.com- I ate every hamburger in the Meatpacking District. Or almost every one — to any restaurant I missed, my insincere apologies. But let’s just say the best under-$10 burgers

I tried over two weeks in the scenester-trampled zone were at Bill’s Bar & Burger, one month old, and at Hector’s diner, 40 years old.

They share the MPD title in the low-priced field, even if that offends oracles who’ve proclaimed Bill’s as having the greatest burgers since man first trod the downtown earth.

The best burger costing more than $10 was the Standard Grill’s. It was also my favorite of all 11 MPD burgers I put to the one-strike-and-you’re-out test. That means I tried each specimen once. Eateries will whine that it’s unfair to judge burgers on a single eating.

I’d like to be the judge of that…You would think that the Meatpacking District would be known for its Burgers per capita (hence the meat) but believe it or not this is not a NYC melting pot of great burgers.  Don’t get me wrong, there are some great spots to dine, drink and dance in the area but not historically known for its perennial powerhouses of burger shrines.  I recently posted up at Bill’s Bar & Burger and liked some things but also had some doubts about the burger meat itself.  What about Gansevoort 69? No mention of that…Past burger Babes would not be pleased about that.  More to come…  – BB

So Fresh and So Fast, Fast

Fresh-N-Fast NYCNEWYORK.GRUBSTREET.com- With P&B up and running, Fresh-N-Fast aims to be the next entrant into the patty pageant. Heath Wolfson, a onetime nightclub promoter and owner who is now CEO of a chain of tattoo shops, Tattoo Nation, has teamed up with Igor Beyder, a finance guy, to open the first of what they hope will be many takeout joints. The first is due to open November 23 in the Flatiron. If the name and branding remind you of something, it’s probably not by accident. “In terms of the quality and consistency of the product, I would compare us to an In-N-Out,” Wolfson says. “We hope to have the same type of following.”

To get there, Wolfson is using a secret LaFrieda blend as well as “special sauce” that sounds similar to Shake Shack’s. The four-ounce patties, which are never frozen, are cooked medium on a flattop and served with American Jack on Martin’s potato buns (what else?). Also on the menu are fries, cheese fries, and vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry shakes.

Fresh-N-Fast, 111 E. 23rd St., nr. Park Ave. S.

I am very interested and eager to see how this pans out.  Everone and the mother from West of the Missippi raves about In-N-Out Burger.  I know its great but its like they are homesick and miss their mommies when they talk about it.  WE KNOW ITS GREAT, WE GET IT!!! So let’s see how the West Coasters measure up their hometown favorite with this new venture.  Coming soon…stay tuned!-BB

Burger Sidekick- Tator Tots

nytimes

nytimes

NYTIMES.com- WHEN Jenny Kirsten, a producer for the Food Network, went on her first date with Jason Beberman, a chef at Dressler in Brooklyn, they didn’t splurge on a multicourse dinner with wine pairings. Instead, they went to the Rusty Knot, a West Village bar that teeters between dive and chic, for picklebacks: a shot of whiskey with a pickle juice chaser. They split a gourmet chicken liver sandwich — with bacon and red onion marmalade — followed by a couple of Tecates with salt on the rim, and then played the free jukebox.

“We can cut the burger and share the fries, and make a date-night toast,” Ms. Kirsten said. She sighed contentedly. “I’m too in love for my own good.”

Let’s just cut to the chase.  There a two key take-aways from this article.  #1, The Rusy Knot is a sick little spot and a must to stop in and have a cocktail.  Whether its a can of Tacate with salt and lime, a Maker’s on the rocks or a shot of Patron this Miami condo cicra 1970’s vibe is perfect to escape the winter cold.  #2, Tator Tots are so underrated its scary.  They are such a great complinment to a big juicy burger.  Maybe falling just short of the french fry in terms of sides, the tator tot has some serious street credit and a great tot would give the french fry a run for its money.- BB
